Desk: In several blasts, including a suicide blast, at least 9 people have been killed and 40 others injured in Indonesia’s second biggest city in Surabaya.
The blasts occurred within a gap of 10 minutes. The first explosion occurred at 7:30 am (0030 GMT). The blasts were targeted at churches.
A spokesman for the East Java police said, “There have been three attacks at three churches.”
According to reports, Santa Maria Catholic Church and Pentecostal church were among the churches attacked.
There have been no claims of responsibility but it is being suspected that Islamic State-inspired group Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) was believed to be behind the bombings.
JAD is an umbrella organisation on a US State Department “terrorist” list that is estimated to have drawn hundreds of Islamic State sympathisers in Indonesia.
