New Delhi: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been going to buy 25 high-end drones to initiate better counter Maoists operations and deal with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. By confirming the news, a Deputy Inspector General-rank officer said on Sunday that the procurement process has already been started and those are expected to be introduced in the next 3-4 months.
Earlier on 12 September, 2017, a conference following this decision had been held and online and offline tender was opened on 26 October with a validity of 6 months. As per the sources, worth of Rs. 15 lakh each, these drones will help the security troops during surveillance, reconnaissance and detection in day and night operations in the valley or in the dense forests of Maoists-hit states.
One CRPF official said, “The drones will have the capacity to integrate geo-referenced master maps, provided in at least one of the commonly used digital map formats, with real-time and clear video during flights at heights of around 250 metres. They will also have better quality zoom control and thermal imaging for night operations.” He also said that the new drones would be able to detect human-seized targets at 300 meters or more.
Meanwhile, after taking the decision of procurement the higher authorities issued the tender on 25 August 2017 with the submission date on 2 January. The tender invited the “online global tender” for the supply of 25 micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs). The 57-page tender notification has wanted a 2-year guarantee from the manufactures and directed to supply the drones within 90 days of winning the contract.
The notification said, “All the tenderers are required to demonstrate the equipment and product offered by them before a board of officers (to be detailed by DG CRPF) at 201 Cobra Battalion Headquarters (Chhattisgarh) for assessing the technical suitability and performance of the equipment as per tender enquiry specifications.”
According to the senior officer, the security forces have diminished the increasing threats of the Maoists rebel so well. But the intelligence inputs suggested that they are still trying to reorganize themselves. In the meantime, the high-end drones will help the security troops in the fight with rebels.
