Kolkata: In a horrendous incident, some women had been victims of acid attack in South Kolkata on Sunday night. Reportedly, the acid was thrown from a running cab aiming at some women pedestrians. The incident took place around 9 pm at South Kolkata’s posh Panditiya Road.
The incident has created panic and raised questions of the security of women in the city. Reportedly, some women were walking on the street when some youths threw acid from a running cab, aiming those women. As per source, 6 women and a child have been seriously injured in the incident. The victims were immediately rushed to the SSKM Hospital.
Meanwhile, a furious mob followed the taxi and caught the vehicle in the Harish Mukherjee Road. The driver was caught at first but he managed to flee by biting one person’s hand. Reportedly, there were 3-4 attackers present inside the cab during the time of the attack. However, nobody could be caught as the other assailants had already escaped earlier. The angry mob vandalized the taxi in a fury. The taxi was seized by the Kalighat Police.
The victims lodged a complaint at Rabindra Sarobar Police Station. The reason behind the attack is still not known. Jayanta Paul, the owner of the taxi was arrested by the police. The case is under investigation.
