Kabul: At least 40 people were killed and dozens more injured in multiple bomb blast on Tebyan center in Pule Sokhtia area of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Thursday morning.
According to the health officials, women, children and journalists are among the deceased persons. The Deputy Interior Ministry spokesperson Nasrat Rahimi said to the media, “The target of the attack was the Tabayan cultural centre. A ceremony was being held to mark the 38th anniversary of Soviet-invasion in Afghanistan when the explosion went off.”
One survivor of the blast also added that the social activists had gathered at the Tebyan social and cultural activity center for a meeting when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives. The center also houses the Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) which is part of the Iranian funded organization. Reportedly, the media outlet earlier reports suggested that it could be target of the insurgent groups.
The attack took place near about 10.30 am local time. Officials further added that there appears to have been more than one attacker. They also said that there were at least 2 maybe 3 suicide bombers who also used grenades in the attack.
Meanwhile, immediate after the incident the Taliban denied any involvement in the attack.
Reportedly, earlier on Monday at least 4 civilian and 2 NDS members were killed in a suicide blast attack near to a National Directorate of Security (NDS) office in Kabul City. The dreaded terrorist group Islamic State (IS) has confirmed that it had carried out the suicide attack that struck the Afghan capital.
