Desk: We are very much well known about the ‘Sarahah’ app. Since few months our Facebook wall becomes a ‘Sarahah’ wall as everyone in our friend-list speaks from their mind through the most famous anonymous messaging app. For the fans of this app, here comes a bad news. The messaging app has been taken off the app stores!
Though the app is famous for months but critics claimed that it was being used by bullies and encouraged people to send each other abuse. Thus it has been criticized along with other similar services like Curious Cat and Ask FM for a long time.
The chat app has been banned after a viral petition filed by one of its users, named Katrina Collins. She alleged that her daughter was getting horrifying, anonymous messages through the app. She further alleged that the unidentified person further told her daughter to kill herself and used other abusive language. Thus it should be banned.
The petition read, “Both the App Store and Google Play have policies against apps which facilitate bullying, harassment or self-harm. Why then is Sarahah still available on these platforms?” The most interesting part is more than 450,000 people have signed the petition. Even many of them have shared their own abusive stories on the platform.
So after getting the petition, both the giant technologies Apple and Google have removed the anonymous messaging app from their app stores. But wait a minute! By leaving the app stores it doesn’t mean that it will be taken off people’s phones. It just only means that people are unable to buy it.
Apart from the removal, the American multinational technology company, Google, has given a response to the petition. It said, “While we don’t comment on specific apps, our Google Play policies are designed to provide a great experience for users. We always do our best to work closely with developers to ensure they’re in compliance with our policies.”
