Mumbai: As Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother and wife are scheduled to meet him on Monday, Jadhav’s friends and well-wishers are hopeful that he will soon be released by the government of Pakistan.
The former naval officer and an alleged spy, Jadhav was arrested from Balochistan earlier on March this year. Earlier on April this year, Jadhav has been given death-sentenced by Pakistan’s military court for allegedly spying and instigating violence in Balochistan.
Earlier this week, the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi issued the visa to his mother apart from his wife. At first, Pakistan offered a meeting between Jadhav and his wife on “humanitarian grounds”. India accepted the offer on the condition that his mother and an Indian diplomat should also be permitted to visit Jadhav along with his wife. Lastly, Pakistan allowed meeting them on December 25. Jadhav’s friend sees this as a favorable step and the visit will disclose details about his physical as well as mental condition.
One of the Jadhav’s friend told a news agency, “This is a very emotional time for Kulbhushan Jadhav’s family and all of us. We have not known his whereabouts for two years now, so I’m happy that his family is being given a chance to meet him and understand how his condition is, and whether he has been tortured or not.”
Another friend Sachin Kade said, “Pakistan, as we have seen, has no solid evidence against Jadhav. Therefore, I feel he should be released at the earliest. Also, all nations know the real side of Pakistan, and this impression that the latter has created for them self will benefit India.”
Jadhav’s friend recently organized a bike rally and a human chain in Mumbai, in order to show their support towards his family at this stage. His friend Subrata Mukherjee said, “The main objective behind the rally and human chain was to extend our support to Kulbhushan Jadhav’s family and assure them that they are not alone in this fight.”
