Kolkata: Veteran Bengali actress Supriya Devi passes away on Friday. She was 83 at the time of her demise. The veteran actress passes away at her own residence due to a severe cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, Supriya devi has worked in the Tollywood film industry for over 50 years. She was honoured with Padma Shri in the year 2014. She was also awarded with Banga Vibhushan and the Filmfare East Lifetime Achievement Award.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted, “Very saddened at the passing of legendary actress of Bengal, Supriya Chowdhury (Debi). We will fondly remember her through her films. Condolences to her family and fans.” Veteran actress Sabitri Chattopadhyay expressed her grief and said, “I cannot believe this news. We regularly talked over phone.”
She started her acting career with the movie ‘Basu Parivar’ in 1952. Her few notable movies are ‘Chowringhee’, ‘Bagh Bandi Khela’, ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’.
Meanwhile, her body will be taken to Rabindra Sadan at 3 pm and will be kept for public display and honour upto 6.30 pm. Reportedly, her body will be taken to Keoratala crematorium after 6.30 pm and will be provided guard of honour from the state government.
